When it comes to managing the crop marketing side of running a farm, Combyne’s goal is to leave
uncertainty in the past. While there will always be factors you can’t control (weather, crop
prices etc.), you can be proactive in optimizing revenue management from selling crops and
minimizing associated risks. As we look towards the future, Combyne is working to tie in various
on-farm and off-farm tools to give you a holistic idea of where you stand with your crop
marketing.
As sustainability becomes an increasingly relevant component of how crops are valued, we
want to be ready to equip farmers to participate in these opportunities, and ensure they are
being rewarded for their production practices.
The combine harvester brought different machine functions together into a single piece of equipment to make harvesting easier. This is the essence of Combyne’s mission for crop marketing. We’re helping ‘combyne’ all the relevant crop marketing information a farmer needs into a single app to make marketing easier, and faster, and more informed. As for the ‘y’, we wanted something to set us apart from the original combine and make us more memorable as a digital tool!
Family Cash Crop & Dairy Farm
What started as an entirely different product, under the name FarmLead in 2014, is known today as Combyne. After realizing that a marketplace matching buyers and sellers of agricultural commodities was not truly solving major problems for the ag industry, the original product was sunset in 2020. But out of the many mistakes we made, and the experiences farmers shared with us along the way about marketing their grain, Combyne was born.
By 2021 Combyne was starting to find its place in the ag tech space. We uncovered an abundance of challenges that farmers were facing within the crop marketing management cycle and began our mission to streamline that experience by focusing on one core need - reconciling crop sales against inventory. This led to expansion on the contract management process to help track deliveries and financials as grain left the farm.
Throughout 2022 Combyne focused on adding features to help with decision-making in the crop marketing lifecycle, and became what we call ourselves today - a crop marketing management tool. By the end of the year, Combyne was acquired by Bayer’s Digital Farming division. The added resources enabled an acceleration on the product vision, bringing more advanced features and decision making abilities to life.
As Combyne grows and expands its offerings, we will continue to look to farmers to help guide us on what they need to make better business decisions. We are striving to create a product that automates and optimizes record keeping and decision making across the farm when it comes to marketing crops, optimizing revenue, managing risks, and planning ahead.
We are data informed, but not driven by data alone. Our vision, bias to action, and frequent farm visits help close the gap when operating with imperfect information.
Combyne believes that transparency is what moves our industry forward. Our vision for the future, company goals, and use of user data are all shared publicly so you never have to guess.
At Combyne we like to show our work upfront, so we can leverage feedback early on. We find that getting different perspectives sooner leads to better outcomes, and saves time.
People are key to our success. Our team, farmers who’ve helped shape the product, and other industry experts we’ve worked with along the way, helped to get us where we are today.
We work directly with farmers to learn how we can improve our product and include them in the process the whole way through. Built for farmers, with farmers’ voices at the forefront.
We operate with the mentality that nothing is right the first time and our product is never ‘done’. We have a launch > learn > iterate cycle, so we can continuously improve.
Combyne is a fully remote company, with employees across Canada and in the US.
